EPISODE 1
Mr. Kim picked up the phone and called the family doctor. His heart was panting. He was so worried and almost burst into tears. Doctor James picked up the phone on the other side of the line.
” Hello! Kim, hope all is well? ” he responded. He could feel the breath of his very good friend and could immediately tell something was not right. Kim never once sounded on the phone and the hour of the day he was calling made things look so usual. Kim never called in at the hospital until it was 5:00pm where he knew James would obviously be getting ready to leave the hospital. So, it was justified he asked if everything was okay.
“My wife is going to have the baby and she is bleeding. Don’t know what to do.” Kim responded in a stammering breaking voice. James immediately understood the urgency of what was happening.
“It is impossible for Jane to have a baby at this time. Something serious might have happened” He thought. He then began to calm Kim down as he will have done to any of his other patient.
“Calm down buddy! you can do this. Listen to me! Just take a deep breath. The paramedics are on the way to your house.”
Kim followed the instruction of James directly like a toddler who wanted a candy from his mom and will do anything to get it. After Kim has taken in a deep breath and out and James was about to ask him to take in another deep breath, a nurse came into his office and dropped a file on his huge desk.
Without waiting to be told what the files were for, he instructed,
Mr. Kim’s wife is about to have a baby, get an ambulance there and bring her.
She responded with such a surprised face “But Doc… “
But interrupting her, He responded
“that is why it is an emergency. Quickly!”
Almost everyone in the hospital seems to know Mr. Kim’s family, since that was their family hospital, although they had no children and were expecting their first. To know the Kim’s meant, you either started your residence a few hours ago or you never watch the news. The Kims were a very influential family in the city of Tandolia but never like much of press attention.
Kim returns and begin to talk to James on the phone,
“It will be alright James! just calm down. everything will be alright. An ambulance will be there soon. Let me talk to Jane. Put her on the phone “
“My wife is unconscious! My wife is unconscious! James! Jane, is dying!” Kim cried.
James was surprised to hear his friend cry. Even though anybody in his condition would have done same.
“I have to go; the ambulance is in the compound” Kim responded and hanged up the phone. He dropped the phone on the floor. At this time, he was not really conscious of a lot of things around him but his wife’s body lying on the floor. The only other thing that got his attention in the house was the siren of the ambulance that just drove into his compound. The next thing he could notice was the nurses and the team from the hospital who came in and carried Jane from the floor from where he had been kneeling beside her. They checked her pulse, and placed her under oxygen on her to support her breathing.
From the way the nurses were hurrying about with their duty, Kim knew has wife’s condition was critical. As two male nurses lifted her outside, with another standing right beside her holding firm the oxygen mask onto her nose and mouth. Kim was also standing at the other side of the stretcher on which her wife was lying holding her right hand firmly as if they were walking to the alter for their marriage to be blessed by a priest. In this case, Jane was lying lifeless and Kim weeping and walking right beside her as they moved towards the ambulance outside. All Kim kept repeating was
“Honey, it will be ok! You are not going to die! Please stay right here with me.”
Before long they had gotten to the back of the ambulances’ door, which had already been opened. Two other nurses were already in it. They immediately placed Jane into the ambulance. And closed the two doors side by side in front of Kim. At that moment, Kim felt like the whole world was curving in on him. He felt like the world had come to an end and his only wife, whom he had being married to for five years was being picked by the rapture and leaving him behind.
The ambulance drove of out the giant gate out of the compound. People always wondered, why will such a magnificent house in the city not have a single maid or security. Mr. Kim thought keeping a maid or any other form of servant was slavery, and that was something he never liked. Moreover, he was one physicist who trusted no one. He felt the only person he will ever trust with certain things about his home was his wife. And even with that, he never told her certain things because, there are things she is not meant to know because of her safety. Moreover, he made life easy himself. He built his own home security system which he believed no one could ever hack. He loved automation….
