The Enigma Guide

Why I Can’t Click the Snooze Button

Everyone has their own methods for managing time and fighting procrastination. For me, one key habit is avoiding the snooze button altogether when my alarm goes off. Here’s why.

I naturally wake up around 3 am, but my set wake-up time is 4 am. Each year, I create new systems for time management using tools like Notion, Google Calendar, and recently, Notion Calendar. I’ll dive into how I use these apps in another post.

I have a friend who wakes up without an alarm, trusting his internal clock. I’m not quite there yet, even though I do wake up at 3 am naturally. To ensure I don’t oversleep, I set my alarm for 4 am and place my phone away from my bed.

The alarm app on my phone is my wake-up call. A small but significant detail is the title of my 4 am alarm: Proverbs 24:33-34. If you’re familiar with this scripture, you’ll understand why it’s a powerful motivator to avoid hitting the snooze button.

Proverbs 24:33-34 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.

This method might not work for everyone, but I encourage you to try it for 21 days if you’re looking for a way to reliably wake up in the morning. It could make a significant difference in your daily routine.
